• I Run for the Party - The Invitational Run will begin at 6:15p.m after the fun run/walk has finished. You must qualify for this section of the run, and we also have the Master division with the same prize money.
• Hitachi Sakura Matsuri The Road Race was kicked off with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m.at the Civic Center. There were participants 3 to 82 years old in the race, male /female, young /old, even children. They came from all over Japan from Fukuoka to Hokkaido. There were overseas participants from Canada and Kenya. The “Sakura” (cherry blossom) was in full bloom throughout Hitachi, and the weather was also very fine indeed for April.
• Annual Corktown Races - Detroit, March 10. Seeing Motor City Strider Ed Kozloff in his green leprechaun outfit is worth the price of entry to this storied St. Patrick's Day Run, put on by the United Irish Societies. It seems like the sun is always shining on the course and St. Patrick's Day Parade. The race starts at 12:30 p.m. at the old Tiger Stadium. There is a 4-mile run, a 1.5-mile walk and a quarter-mile walk. There will be clowns, bands and a lot of people in funny running costumes.
• Girls on the RunGirls on the Run is a life-changing, experiential learning programs for girls age eight to thirteen years old. The programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.
• Midnight Sun Run Fairbanks, AK More than just a running race, the Fairbanks Daily News- Miner Midnight Sun Run is a uniquely Alaskan event that attracts participants from all over the country. Now in its 21st year, this years race will be held on June 21st at 10p.m. Despite its late evening start, there's no need to bring flashlights, as the summer solstice sun shines brightly in the skies above, from start to finish and beyond. In recent years the race has attracted over 3,000 participants, from the elite runners who are aiming to break the finish line ribbon to back of the pack strollers simply out to have a good time. While most participants prefer to wear shorts and a t-shirt, others choose rather unconventional clothing, such as a cow costume. The costumed division is perhaps one of the most anticipated aspects of the race, and given the fact that folks in Fairbanks have plenty of hours of daylight to work on costumes, the final products are unique, to say the least.

Each year there are more costume runs throughout the world and Halloween is a great time for one. Be sure to check your local clubs and periodicals for a race near you. This list is by no means complete and feel free to send me your additions.

The Arthritis Foundation sponsors the Jingle Bell Run Seriesin a city near you each year. Most have a costume contest that I know of. Check your local paper for race locations and dates.
